Mira Betz

This weekend I photographed a close friend and amazing belly dancer, Mira Betz. She is kind of awesome. We shot mostly at my house, which is being rebuilt because it caught fire in 2007. Although it was a little tricky working in the attic, the light was great, and it was a lot of fun.

If you have the opportunity to see Mira Betz dance, do.

Some of the images here showcase one of Dark Garden Unique Corsetry’s new corset designs. Dark Garden makes amazing custom corsets. They are based in San Francisco, and make wedding dresses that are truly divine.

Enjoy the images.

  • Julie - These are very nice G. Almost like boudoir images. Did you add light or was the light this beautiful?September 18, 2008 – 10:38 pm

  • gabrielharber - Julie-

I used a reflector for most of the shots to add to the available light. These were all shot in my attic which has part of the roof still open.September 19, 2008 – 9:14 am

  • Kaytee - Lucky you! What wonderful photos. Mira is one of my all time favorite dancers.December 19, 2008 – 8:28 pm

  • Dea Ledbelly - I’ve studied with Mira and have seen her perform. She is a captivating dancer, and her classes surpass ‘belly dancing classes’ in that she utilizes other techniques (like modern dance exercises) to develop our sense of ‘self’ (try being “seaweed” for twenty minutes….)
I love your photos of her as they are as capitavting as she is! When she steps onto a stage, you are mesmerized watching her. However, she seems to be one of the most down-to-earth people I’ve ever studied with…a real clown in class and a fun personality!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful photo work!

  • gabrielharber - Well said Dea!July 28, 2009 – 3:51 pm

  • Mariamira - Thank you, Gabriel, for sharing this photos! I admire all your work. You are as versatile as Mira. I love how people change and come with new things…new feelings and thoughts. A changing being as the universe.
I also agree with Dea. It felt so different while taking Mira’s workshop. Our faces were so tense while trying some new technique and she just came and told us to put faces like grape, then raisin…grape, raisin, on and on. She’s my favorite teacher and dancer in the whole world 🙂
I hope to meet you as well one day. She told me great things about you and I am definitively in love with your photo work. You capture “the moment” right 😀October 13, 2009 – 12:20 pm
